Resistance

Müjdat Hacıoğlu lives in İstanbul where he has a daughter. After giving up a career in finance at age 50, he took a backpacking trip around the world. Developing a fondness for his on-the-road, globe-trotter self, he has become an RV-er in the last three years, traveling both in Turkey and abroad. He has been involved with photography for years now, but he still finds it difficult to call himself a photographer. ‘Street photography’ is his special interest. He plans to organize a photo exhibition documenting his journeys, the faces he has met on the road, and the stories belonging to them. He published a book titled Morjinal Dünya Seyahati in 2023 recounting parts of his journey.
Artist’s Statement:
There is so much to say about the Gezi Park protests, but most of what I’d like to express would still constitute a crime in my country. The Gezi Resistance for me was a cry uttered by people of divergent points of view towards a demand for universal values, such as liberty and peace. It was perhaps the most promising civilian resistance of Turkey’s republican era.
